This is my first blog post...ever. I am terrified. Seriously.

I have had "start a blog" on my To Do List for longer than I can remember. It has been one of those things that I have always wanted to do but have made a million excuses not to start. My life surely can't be interesting enough to blog about, I don't have enough time, there is other things I should be doing, and of course what if nobody reads it? These excuses have held me back from taking the leap... until today. Today is the day I push aside the fear and the excuses and jump in head first.
Before I started writing this post I, of course, googled starting a blog and (like with any google search) I found a ton of useful information. Many of the sites suggested to share why you are blogging and what you will be blogging about. I thought a lot about these questions and thought I would share them so you know what to expect!
Why start a blog?
I wanted to start a blog to share more of myself. I think choosing a photographer to capture some of the most precious moments in your life can be a very personal decision and I want people to be able to get to know me before they have to make that choice. When my clients know more about me they are more comfortable sharing more about themselves with me. I find this elevated level of comfort always results in a better overall experience and that reflects in the images.
A second, more selfish, reason I wanted to start a blog was to improve my writing skills. We all know that "practice makes perfect" and I felt like a blog was a perfect way to practice and refine my skill! For those of you who know me well you know that personal development is something that is very close to my heart. I am excited to challenge myself in a way I hope will be mutually beneficial for me and my readers!
What should I blog about?
Deciding what to blog about is what makes me the most nervous! As a photographer I want to share my sessions with you, let you know what to expect when you work with me, and provide overall tips about photography. While I think those will be useful topics I don't think they will help you really get to know me so I also plan to share more about myself and my family including my love for baking, traveling, and budgeting. If there is something more that you want to learn about me let me know in the comments.
So here is to doing something that scares the crap out me and to the first of, hopefully, many blog posts!
